Job Description
Duties:
ERA & EOB Processing: Manually insert Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from paper checks into the Practice Management (PM) system and import and post Electronic Remittance Advices (ERA).
Denial Capturing: Determine and precisely code denial reasons (Remark Codes) from the EOBs, making sure they are sent to the AR department for prompt investigation.
Payment Reconciliation: Make sure the total amount recorded in the program corresponds with the real bank deposit or "Lockbox" totals by doing "Batch Balancing" every day.
Secondary Billing Initiation: Determine which claims have been paid by the primary insurer and initiate the "Secondary Crossover" or manual billing for secondary and tertiary insurance.
Co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance payments made directly by patients using credit cards, checks, or internet portals should be recorded.
Contractual Adjustment Handling: Apply the appropriate write-offs and adjustments in accordance with the provider's agreed-upon fee schedule
with particular insurance companies.
Credit Balance Identification: To handle patient or insurance refunds in accordance with federal requirements, flag overpayments and work with the Refunds department.
Audit Compliance: Ensure that all financial entries are transparent and readily retrievable for month-end close by keeping a clear "Audit Trail" for each transaction.
Focus Skills:
High-speed alphanumeric typing with a very small tolerance for error.
RCM Terminology: A thorough comprehension of CAS (Claim Adjustment Segment) codes, ANSI 835 files, and Remark codes.
Mathematical aptitude: Excellent at performing simple financial computations and reconciling intricate spreadsheets.
Software Proficiency: Practical knowledge of billing systems such as Athenahealth, Epic, eClinicalWorks, or Kareo.
Integrity: Strict moral guidelines for managing private financial information and protected health information (PHI).
