Responsibilities:
Machine Operation: Configure and run standard center lathes to carry out parting-off, knurling, boring, turning, and facing operations.
Blueprint Interpretation: To ascertain dimensions, tolerances, and surface quality specifications, read and analyze intricate engineering drawings.
Verify work at every level with precision measurement tools such as thread gauges, Vernier calipers, and outside/inside micrometers.
Thread Cutting: Determine and adjust the gear ratios to cut different kinds of thread (Metric, BSW, and ACME) with a lead screw.
Tool Grinding: For some materials, hand-grind
carbide-tipped and high-speed steel (HSS) tools to the proper rake and clearance angles.
Work-Holding Proficiency: Use faceplates, centers with stable rests, three-jaw chucks, or four-jaw independent chucks to secure irregularly shaped workpieces.
Material Management: Choose the right feed rates and cutting speeds depending on the material that needs to be machined.
Required Skills:
Mechanical Intuition: The capacity to use sound and vibration to identify machining problems such as "chatter" or tool wear.
Mathematical Proficiency: Excellent fractional and decimal calculation abilities for thread pitches and taper angles.
Manual dexterity: ability to manage the cross-slide and carriage simultaneously with a high degree of hand-eye coordination.
Physical Strength: The capacity to lift large objects and stand for extended periods of time.
Experience: 0 to 3 yrs
