Position Overview

The product cost management team at Navistar is undergoing a transformation to re-position ourselves as a strong business partner to the Business Units, R&D and Procurement organizations, and help develop and deliver products that give us a competitive advantage. The Product Cost Management team is now looking for a Material Cost Analyst (Cost Engineer) that understands and desires to challenge our costs on existing and new components.



Who are we?

We are a team with different nationalities, ages, talents, backgrounds and ideas. Our team has extensive experience and knowledge in materials, manufacturing processes, burden rates and factors as well as production tooling….all things that drive product cost. We work closely with Engineering, Procurement and our suppliers to influence decisions to ensure we deliver the most cost optimized solutions that meets or exceeds our Navistar 4.0 profitability objectives.



What will you do?

You will support both Procurement and Engineering with high quality material cost calculations to identify potential cost savings for both new product designs and supplier negotiations. Cost calculations will be both from a 'Greenfield' as well as a supplier specific perspective. The Material Cost Analyst will be expected to be a business partner to procurement and have an active role in negotiations and supplier selection.



Who are you?

We are looking for a self-motivated and energetic individual with relevant work experience of a minimum of 2 years, preferably with a background in the automotive industry as an engineer, cost engineer or procurement. This position will work both internally and cross-functionally at multiple levels within Navistar. Excellent teamwork and clear communication is important. This position will require some travel to key suppliers to support procurement

negotiations.



Key responsibilities include:

Be the center-of-excellence for assigned categories with regards to understanding product/ manufacturing costs
Generate ‘Greenfield’ cost estimates - the true cost of the component, as designed, assuming best-in-class sourcing and manufacturing
Travel to key supplier manufacturing sites to assess the supplier’s true manufacturing costs and develop ‘Brownfield’ cost models, and also identify potential opportunities to optimize cost
Closely partner with Category Managers and provide costing/ analytics support for all major supplier negotiations
Collaborate across cross functional peers, especially Product Engineering, Procurement, Quality and Manufacturing, and support in developing products with the most optimized cost
Challenge suppliers on their cost structures and negotiate based on factual data

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree
At least 5 years of product manufacturing experience
OR

Master’s degree
At least 3 years of product manufacturing experience
OR

At least 7 years of product manufacturing experience

Additional Requirements

Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Desired Skills

Data analytics & data mining to identify cost outliers and opportunities.

Experience in both estimating and model development utilizing costing software like ‘aPriori’ and DFMA.

Experience with different plastic parts manufacturing like injection Molding, Thermoforming and fiberglass process is desirable
